KARACHI: Former Pakistan batsman Younis Khan still believes that decision of not selecting Fawad Alam in the squad for the England and Ireland tour was unfair.
Lavishing praise on the discard, Younis said, “Fawad Alam should be give a chance. His excellent batting performance is evidence of his capabilities and he should have been given a chance”.
He criticised the team selection and said the player is in good form and would have performed well during the tour.
Younis pointed at a time when senior players used to mostly dominate the squad and young players were overlooked in their presence.
“There was a time when Fawad was not offered the chance due to the presence of senior batsmen including Misbah ul Haq, Inzamam ul Haq and myself. However, he said, Fawad should now be given a chance to showcase his talent.
Talking about chief selector’s nephew, the former cricketer said ”Imam-ul-Haq has a chance; he should perform well and prove himself,” Younis said.
Fawad, whose first-class average hovers at more than 55, has been overlooked for Tests by various selection committees and captains over the past eight years.
